Bayer 50: Did You Know?

The first mass-produced American car with an all-plastic body was the Pontiac Fiero, containing about 50 pounds of Bayer’s polyurethane chemicals molded by our Reaction Injection Molding Technology.

Employee Involvement

  • United Way
Bayer’s commitment to the United Way of Allegheny County was born in the early sixties in the auditorium of brand new Building One. That’s where employees first gathered to learn about the impact of our donations on the lives of local individuals and families. Our people responded that year and every year to follow. In the last two decades alone, Bayer contributed over $10M to the United Way.

    • Bayer employees also initiated a Fall Festival on the Bayer campus to benefit United Way. Open to the public, the annual event featured crafts, food booths, costume parades, a Children’s Monster Patch and a Haunted Trail that became a legendary part of Pittsburgh’s “fright night” activities every Halloween season.

  • Junior Achievement (JA) of Western Pennsylvania was an early focus for Bayer employees who donated hundreds of hours to help generations of local youngsters become excited about science and learn marketable skills at the same time.

  • Bayer employees have been tireless fundraisers and volunteers through the years. Among numerous other activities our people have planted trees with students in Chartiers Valley, pounded the pavement on Heart Walks, gone door to door for Friends of Scouting and collected thousands of Toys for Tots.
